Developer Verification Tool "OP Inspector" Now Available for Chrome and Firefox

INFO

Created At:

OP Inspector, a browser extension for developers to verify and debug Originator Profile (OP) technology, is now available on the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Add-ons.

■ Background — Making "who published this" verifiable

Behind the growing problems of mis/disinformation and fraudulent ads lies a structural issue: there has been no way to verify who published a piece of content, prior to any question of what it says. OP technology addresses this by having third-party organizations confirm the identity and real-world existence of content creators and publishers, and attaching that information to content and websites in a tamper-proof form secured by digital signatures. The technology is being deployed in real-world settings while being proposed as a web standard.

■ OP Inspector — A verification and debugging tool for developers

OP Inspector is a debugging tool for developers that retrieves, verifies, and visualizes OP information attached to websites and content in the browser. It can be used to:

  • Identify errors caused by key revocation or misconfiguration
  • Visualize signature verification results and content tampering detection status
  • View and copy verification data as JSON

This extension is intended for verification and debugging purposes. A separate extension with an interface and features designed for general Internet users is planned for a future release.
