We are pleased to announce that the Originator Profile (OP) Collaborative Innovation Partnership, which is made up of domestic and international media and advertising-related companies, has decided to add four new members after a resolution at the General Meeting on June 27th.

The Kahoku Shimpo Publishing, SEARCHLIGHT, The Shizuoka Shimbun, The Niigata Nippo (in Japanese alphabetical order)

It has been one and a half years since the association was established in December 2022. With this addition, the number of participating companies and organizations has increased to 41, including 37 as of the end of March.

This technology, named OP, is a mechanism for providing a safe Internet environment and aims to become a "web standard" adopted by browsers and other devices. It is a technology that provides information such as content creators on the Internet and the source of digital advertisements in a verifiable form, and by making it possible to identify reliable content originators, it will establish a mechanism for Internet users to easily distinguish between high-quality media and content that has been third-party certified. OP will also help prevent the proliferation of disinformation and misinformation (so-called fake news) and ad fraud.

Under the supervision of the Cyber Civilization Research Center at Keio University, the Originator Profile Collaborative Innovation Partnership is working with various stakeholders to develop OP specifications and test implementations in Japan, aiming for web standardization and social implementation. Based on the knowledge gained from domestic research, we are making proposals to organizations such as the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which is a standardization organization for web technology, with the aim of contributing to the development of a healthy Internet that can be used safely by people all over the world.

Overview of the Originator Profile Collaborative Innovation Partnership

A Comment from Jun Murai, Professor at Keio University and Chief Director of the Originator Profile Collaborative Innovation Partnership

" Our efforts to commercialize Originator Profile (OP) technology, which can maintain the integrity of the Internet and enhance the public interest, have been met with understanding and expectations from various fields. About one and a half years after the Originator Profile Collaborative Innovation Partnership was established in December 2022, the number of participating companies has reached 41.

In the wake of the Noto Peninsula earthquake in January this year, there have been a series of cases of disinformation and misinformation spreading on social media, and OP technology has attracted even more attention as one of the countermeasures. The association is currently conducting demonstration experiments toward social implementation. In addition to the practical application and social implementation of OP technology, we will continue to aim for international standardization in Internet technical specifications.

What we are developing is a new technology that enables the safe disclosure of information about content originators using digitized codes. If the use of OP in media and advertising progresses, a healthy Internet space will be maintained, and as a result, public interest will be enhanced.

We hope that OP technology will make reliable media visible, leading to improved trust of news, which is being questioned due to the spread of harmful disinformation and misinformation such as fake news, and in particular, contributing to the creation of a healthier digital advertising market. "
